The 2017 Eaton Square Shopping Center's Chinese New Year's Celebration was held on Friday, February 3rd. This is the 9th year that the Honolulu Lion Dance Association blessed the tenants offices and entertained visitors. The lions started on the top floor of the Center and worked their way to the courtyard and down to the frontage on Hobron Lane. With all the excitement in the air from the drumming and the beautiful adult and keiki lion, it's so wonder that people kept coming to the Center. It was like the Pied-Piper following the lions all the way to the Food Pantry, where they had their grand finale.
This is the year of the Rooster, which always comes after a Monkey year and before a Dog year. It is tenth out of the twelve animals in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Past Rooster years are 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993 and 2005.
In Chinese astrology, each zodiac year is not just associated with an animals sign, but also one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth. Both the zodiac sign and the element shape the astrology of the year. For example, 2017 is a Fire Rooster year.
